Reserves look to turn tables on Nyambadwe

Eleven consecutive victories have carried Bullets Reserves to the summit, but Saturday’s visitors arrive at Kamuzu Stadium having won the first-round meeting.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves will be looking to reverse their first-round defeat to Nyambadwe United when the two sides meet again in the SRFA FINCA Division One League at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Henry Kabichi’s side head into the encounter on the back of eleven consecutive league victories, the latest coming in a 2-0 win away to Zingwangwa United through first-half goals from Limbitso Chimanjamanja and Francis Malikebu.

The result took the young Bullets to 40 points at the top of the standings, with another victory offering an opportunity to extend their advantage to eight points.

Nyambadwe, meanwhile, arrive at Kamuzu Stadium following a 1-1 draw against Kwipeyo in their previous outing.

The visitors claimed a 1-0 victory when the two sides met in the first round, frustrating Kabichi’s men despite Bullets creating several opportunities to find the net.

Much has changed since that encounter, with the Reserves establishing a sustained run of victories to strengthen their position at the summit.

However, the inability to convert chances in the earlier meeting remains a relevant lesson as Bullets prepare for Saturday’s return fixture.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, assistant coach Gift Nyirenda expressed confidence in the team’s preparations while emphasising the importance of translating their work on the training ground into another positive performance.

“The preparations have been going well, and the boys are ready for the challenge ahead. We believe that if they implement what we have been working on in training, we will get the positive result we want,” said Nyirenda.

Improving efficiency in front of goal has been among the technical panel’s priorities, an area that could prove decisive against opponents who kept Bullets scoreless in the reverse fixture.

“We have been working on how to utilise the chances we create because, as a team, we need to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Nyirenda also highlighted the importance of defensive organisation, with the technical panel seeking to maintain the balance between creating opportunities and limiting threats at the opposite end.

“We have also been working on keeping clean sheets, which is equally important. If we can execute what we have been practising in training, I believe we will get the positive result we want at the end of the match.”

Bullets will, however, be without Limbani Manyamba and Feston Botomani, who remain sidelined through injury.

Despite the absences, Kabichi’s side will be looking to draw on the consistency that has underpinned their recent performances as they prepare for another important league encounter.

Saturday’s fixture will provide another measure of the Reserves’ progress, with the young Bullets seeking to translate their impressive league form into a better outcome against opponents who frustrated them in the first round.
