Reserves return to action at Chiradzulu

Bullets Reserves head to Chiradzulu on Sunday looking to build on a productive two-week break as they resume their SRFA FINCA Division One League campaign.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves return to action on Sunday with an away fixture against Chiradzulu United at Mnkhwai Ground in the SRFA FINCA Division One League.

Bullets Reserves have made an encouraging start to life in the Division One League, winning two of their opening three matches.

They opened their campaign with a 3-2 victory over Mwanza Stars before suffering a 2-0 defeat to FC Thondwe. Henry Kabichi’s side responded in style, recording a commanding 6-1 victory over Mwanza United in their most recent outing.

Since that victory, Kabichi’s boys were forced into a two-week break after their previous two league fixtures were postponed following the temporary closure of Kamuzu Stadium, which left match venues unavailable.

The enforced pause has, however, allowed the technical panel to fine-tune key areas ahead of Sunday’s return to league action.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Kabichi believes his players are ready to build on the positive work done during the break.

“All the preparations have gone well this week and we believe the boys are ready to face Chiradzulu United,” said Kabichi.

While pleased with the progress made on the training ground, the coach acknowledges that the real measure of improvement comes in competitive matches.

“During the two weeks without playing, we worked on some of our weaknesses. However, you can improve better when you are playing matches. The games were not taking place because of the availability of grounds, but now that we are going to Chiradzulu, I believe we will begin to see the changes.”

Improving defensive solidity has been one of the technical panel’s key priorities after Bullets Reserves conceded more goals than they would have liked during the opening weeks of the campaign.

“We have been working hard on our defence because we have been conceding many goals. From this match, we expect to see the results of the work we have been doing throughout the week.”

Sunday’s fixture will mark the first meeting between the two sides.

Although Kabichi admits there is little information available about Chiradzulu United, he expects a competitive contest.

“This will be our first encounter with them and we don’t know much about how they play, but we are expecting an entertaining match in Chiradzulu.”

Bullets Reserves will travel without three players.

Midfielder Matthews Nkunika remains sidelined with a groin injury, Limbitso Chimanjamanja is unavailable due to family commitments, while Duncan Kumbuyo misses the trip as he prepares to sit for his Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.

Despite those absences, Kabichi is encouraged by the depth available within his squad and is confident his boys can produce a positive performance in Chiradzulu.
