Alick Lungu’s strike wins December Goal of the Month

Another strike from a set piece has been voted the Precious Medical International Goal of the Month.

From the four strikes in contention for the PMI best goal in December, Alick Lungu’s long-range effort from a free kick in our 3-1 triumph over MMF Marines in the Castel Challenge Cup at Dedza Stadium is the winner.

Comfortably leading 2-0 away, The People’s Team brought the Marines back in the game as the home side pulled one back in the 53rd minute from a setpiece after Lungu had conceded a free kick on the left flank.

The home side’s goal meant one thing: a nervous final 40 minutes for Pasuwa’s men, who needed to defend their slender lead or restore the two-goal cushion playing on a water-logged pitch.

Indeed, Bullets did what was necessary in the 62nd minute. Lloyd Aaron was fouled closer to the centre cycle and the left-footed wingback was given the mantle of being in charge of the freekick to release a powerful shot that beat Yes Nyirenda into the far corner of the net, 1-3.

That third goal was all that we needed to ease the pressure from the hosts and go on to book a place in the semifinals of the Castel Challenge Cup where we lost through post-match penalties against Mzuzu City Hammers to bow out of the competition.

Alick got per cent of the supporters’ votes on nyasabigbullets.com, surpassing Lloyd Aaron and Wongani Lungu’s opening and second goals in the same game against the Marines, and Babatunde Adepoju’s header against FOMO in the TNM Super League at Mulanje Park.

Congratulations to Alick, and many thanks to everyone who took the time to vote!
