FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Blessings Mpokera have reached an agreement to renew the defender’s contract for another two years.
The new deal will tie the 22-year-old Bullets Under 19s graduate to the club until 2027.
He joined The People’s Team in 2017 and progressed through our junior ranks before making his first-team debut on 4 April 2021.
Mpokera, who also plays as a holding midfielder, has made 92 appearances for the first team. He earned his Malawi senior call-up in 2022.
He told club media: “I am happy to extend my stay here. As you know, I came as a kid, but now I am growing in the team, which has helped me a lot over the years in terms of personal development as a player. The club has respected me, and it has always been my wish to stay at Malawi’s biggest club because every player wishes to play for this big club.”
He renewed his contract after the club hired Peter Mponda to replace Kalisto Pasuwa as the Bullets’ head coach.
Mpokera said: “I have worked with both coach Pasuwa and Mponda, and I believe that coach Mponda learnt a lot from his predecessor. I am looking forward to working with him [as the head coach]. I will work hard to impress him so that I continue having more game time.”
Mponda commented: “Mpokera is a very versatile player who can play as a centre back, a right back or as a number six. So, him extending his contract with us is a plus for this club because he can play in different positions and this is what we need to cope with the congested fixtures.”
