Bullets Reserves’ 9-0 win over Zomba Airbase excites Chatama

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves made a perfect start to their championship defence after gnashing Zomba Airbase 9-0 in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League at Mpira Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With a win by that wider margin, our junior side takes lead in Group B’s early standings.

In reaction to the performance and the result, coach Enos Chatama gave a rare pat on the back to his players for a positive display.

“I like how the boys created chances, especially in the second half. They were moving faster and shot a lot at goal, which is a positive for the team,” Chatama told club media.

What happened

Seven minutes after the start, the champions marched forward down the left by-line where Wongani Kaponya delivered a cross pass, which the visitors’ defender Mathews Chawanda turned into his net to gift us the lead.

Two minutes later Osman Bakali laid quite a visionary through-ball to Kaponya who took a touch before producing a calm finish to double our lead.

In the 27th minute, Franklin Titani got himself on the score sheet and handed us a three-goal lead with a simple finish following some dreadful defensive work from the away team.

As we cruised away from the visitors’ reach, the tie, unlike the way it started, suddenly became unmatched as the airborne soldiers were made to chase the shadows of the young Bullets all the time.

Captain Andrew Lameck scanned Kaponya’s clever run before sending a lofted pass behind the visitors’ backline and the forward had the simplest task of guiding the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0.

With a minute to go before the break, our new forward from Blantyre United, Gift Lamowa made it 5-0 after being set up by Titani from down the right.

Six minutes into the second half, it was six for us as Lyton Chinong’one scored from outside the box with a rocket strike.

And three minutes later, substitute Chrispin Mapemba added another after being set through on a one-on-one situation.

In the 69th minute, Gift Jossam scored a wild free-kick, which proved to be the best goal of the afternoon.

Wrapping up the scoring for us was Chinong’one when he made it 9-0 for us while completing his brace.
