Bullets U19s beat Agumbala 2-0 to open three-point gap

Share

Vincent Kampira and Brian Mwase’s first-half strikes secured all three points for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Under-19s following a 2-0 triumph over Agumbala Stars in the FCB Katswiri Under 20 League at Police Training School Ground on Friday Morning.

What Happened

The young Bullets went into this tie coming from a 1-0 defeat against Manchester Motors at Police Training School Ground on Monday.

The game kicked off with a flying start as both sides looked to show dominance in search of an early goal.

Kelvin Chimodzi thought he had opened the scoring for Ymaikani Fodya’s boys early in the tie, but the flag was up for offside.

Bullets broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Kampira, who received a pinpoint pass from Martin Adam.

Two minutes later, Mwase doubled our lead, Adam with another assist, after a brilliant display from the back.

Following the two quick goals, the hosts started knocking and won a free kick in the attacking zone but their attempt went off target.

Chimodzi had another opportunity to double his tally, unfortunately, he saw his strike sailing wide.

Taking a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, Bullets gained momentum and controlled the tempo of the game and the youngsters kept launching a series of attacks to keep the Agumbala defence in shackles.

As the first half wore off, Agumbala had hope from a corner kick, but the ball ended up in the palms of our goalkeeper Daniel Matumula.

The opening period ended with our youth side clinging to their 2 – 0 advantage, leaving Agumbala with a mountain to climb.

The second half commenced with young Maule picking up where they left off before the recess, with their attacking pressure.

In the 55th minute, Agumbala made the first substitution of the match, introducing Sherif Manuel into the fray for Anthony Pipe.

Their substitution proved to be useful as they had two quick succession corner kicks, however, our defense was alert for the attacks.

As they continued looking for a third goal, Bullets won a corner kick in the 63rd minute but the set piece was not put to good use.

Fodya made a tactical substitution in the 69th by introducing Geoffrey Kamwendo and Charles Mkandawire replacing Adam and Chimodzi, as he was looking for fresh legs to contain the hosts and hold on to the lead.

After 80 minutes, Bullets youngsters were 2-0 winners over Agumbala, cementing their grip at the summit of the log table.

What it means

With this win, Bullets have opened a three-point gap over the second-placed Manchester Motors, who have 25 points with a game in hand.

Fodya’s post-match reaction

“It was a challenging game as we were coming from a defeat and our opponents were coming from a win. But our game plan worked well as we found early goals in the first half, helping us to control the game. This win will motivate the boys to do well in our next fixture against Assima FC. The boys are really doing well, they’re picking well what we are teaching them in training.”

What next

The Bullets U19s will turn back into action on Monday morning when they face Assima FC at Chilomoni Stadium.
