Eight players from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have been selected to represent Malawi in next month’s Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup, following the latest call-up from head coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
Malawi has announced a 25-man squad for the 2025 COSAFA tournament, scheduled to take place from June 4 to 15 in Mangaung, South Africa.
From the group that recently featured in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 qualifiers against South Africa, Pasuwa has named Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba, defender Andrew Jovinala, and midfielders Yankho Singo, Chawanangwa Gumbo, Wongani Lungu, and Chikumbutso Salima, while club captain Lloyd Aaron misses out.
Defender Blessings Mpokera has also earned a recall to the Flames squad, marking his return after last featuring during the 2024 Four Nations Tournament.
Additionally, our reserves team captain, 19-year-old midfielder Oscar Petro, has received his first senior national team call-up.
The Football Association of Malawi stated in a statement on Wednesday, “Pasuwa has left out most regulars to give an opportunity to upcoming players to prove themselves ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in September.”
Malawi, who are in Group B, will open their 2025 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup campaign against Lesotho on June 5, followed by a clash with Namibia three days later. The Flames will conclude the group stage with a match against Angola on June 10.
The squad will assemble at Mpira Village in Blantyre this weekend before departing for South Africa on Tuesday.
