Captain Gomezgani Chirwa says FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ previous result will give the team confidence when they take on Bangwe All Stars in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The People’s Team defeated Civil Service United 2-0 in the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinals at the same venue on Saturday.
Bullets will return to league action in over a month when we drew 1-1 against Moyale Barracks, our ninth stalemate in this league campaign in which we have only won five games and lost twice in 16 matches.
Kalisto Pasuwa’s men have had a tough opening half of the league campaign after winning all the domestic trophies last season, currently sitting tenth in the standings, 21 points behind leaders Silver Strikers.
“We are buoyed by that result last week. It will give us the much-needed confidence and I am very positive that we will strive for more positive results because that’s what we needed to boost our confidence which has been lacking in the previous games,” Chirwa said during a press conference on Wednesday.
“As you know we are currently sitting in an unfamiliar position in the league, we need to start winning and our game against Bangwe is one of the important games for us to win. We are geared for this encounter,” explained the Malawi defender.
“It’s going to be tough against Bangwe because every team wants to beat us. We are the defending champions and these teams are always coming at us with a point to prove, but we will always try to come up with a plan B so that we collect points by the end of the day. It has never been easy for us against every team but we are the champions, we have to win and will give it our all to win.”
After the midweek game, Pasuwa’s men will switch focus to our next two matches against Chitipa United on Sunday and Creck Sporting Club on Wednesday, before travelling to the North for games against Baka City and Mzuzu City Hammers.
Chirwa believes Bullets will rise to the occasion and fight for the red badge.
“We are players and we have to rise to the occasion. Yes, a busy period for us but we have what it takes to deliver for the team, taking one game at a time.”
