Inside Bullets this week

It’s a new week and one that will be filled with plenty of action as all our sides will be involved in competitive and friendly matches.

The weekend promises action so eventful though it’s the beginning of the new season for our first team, which will start the TNM Super League title defence with an away fixture.

Our women and the youth teams will also be in the field of play in their respective competitions, while the reserves will continue fine-tuning ahead of their new season, which kicks off on 23 April.

We take a look at what is lined up for Bullets teams this week.

First Team

Straight from the NBS Bank Charity Shield triumph last Sunday, The People’s Team is set for the first TNM Super League assignment which will be up against Silver Strikers at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe this Saturday.

The champions will head to the capital relishing the thought of playing The Central Bankers at the BNS, a venue they claimed their sixth consecutive Charity Shield feat last weekend, thanks to goals from Maxwell Phodo and Stanley Billiat which secured a 2-1 win over our old foes, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

The defending champions will be feeling positive to face Silver Strikers in the opening match, remembering that the last time they started the league with the Bankers they were 2-1 winners. This will be only the second time since 2014 that the two TNM Super League thoroughbreds are meeting on match day 1 of the championship campaign.

Women

Following their inactivity during the past weekend, our ladies will make a return to action this week. Their next fixture in the FAM Women’s Football Championship will see Maggie Chombo’s side play host to CY Sisters at the Mpira Stadium on Sunday.

Our ladies are off the back of a hard-fought 2-1 victory over DD Sunshine, now Silver Strikers Women, and they will hope to pick it up from that huge win.

Saturday’s tie will be the game in hand our ladies have on DD, who up to date lead Group A with 6 points thanks to their superior goal difference over our side.

A win on Saturday will see them moving top as they inch closer to earning a semi-final berth and boost their chances of defending the title they won last year.

Youth

With a Matamando Matchipisa solo goal, our youth team advanced to the last four of the African Herbal Mixture Youth League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ndirande Stars at Mpira Stadium on Monday afternoon.

At the same venue, Autry Kalulu’s youngsters will have a semi-final date against Soche Madrid on Saturday morning at Kamuzu Stadium. A win will send them through to the final of the competition in its inaugural year.

Reserves

The defending champions of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League will continue fine-tuning ahead of the 2023 season which is set to kick off next week.

In readiness for their fresh title defence, the Enos Chatama boys have already played four friendly matches winning all while scoring 24 goals.

This weekend, the decorated lads are to take a trip to the Lower Shire where they are expected to play a Chikwawa Select team. That is likely to be their last friendly match before their new campaign starts.
