Inside Bullets this week

It’s a new month with new challenges for the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets family beginning this weekend.

Here is a brief guide to what this week looks like for our teams.

First Team

Straight from their second away trip to the Central Region in the new season, the first team returns to Kamuzu Stadium for their fourth game of the 2023 TNM Super League against Moyale Barracks on Saturday afternoon.

This presents yet another chance for Kalisto Pasuwa’s side to maintain their perfect home record after they finished the 2022 season unbeaten in their backyard.

It will also be an opportunity for the defending champions to keep pace with early pacesetter Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who will face Mighty Tigers a day later.

A win for Bullets will see them go top for the first time this season.

The People’s Team has seven points from the three games, having drawn 1-1 with Silver Strikers and registering back-to-back victories over Mafco FC and Extreme FC.

Women

Maggie Chombo’s ladies will be at home as they welcome Ascent Academy in the semifinals of the FAM Women’s Football National Championship at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.

Our women’s team were not in action at the weekend after they were rested following their Northern Region successful trip where they hammered Topik 7-1 to finish top of Group A with 12 points and book a place in the last four.

A win will see them advancing to the final, giving them another opportunity to defend the title they won last season.

In another semifinal match, DD Sunshine will face Ntopwa Super Queens at the same venue.

The final of the competition will be played next week at the same Mpira Stadium.

Reserves

After recording a hard-fought 1-0 away victory to The Boys in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League last Saturday, our reserves, who also played out a goalless draw in a friendly match against Shire Hammers of Liwonde 24 hours later, will not be involved in league action this week.

Instead, Enos Chatama’s side will travel to Mponela for the official launch of the Champions Cup at Champions Stadium where they will face Dzaleka Future FC on Saturday.

Youth

They have just won the Africa Herbal Mix U-19 Cup after beating rivals Ekhaya Mighty Wanderers Youth on Sunday and seems the party continues for our youth team as they will not be in action this week and the rest of the month.

With the cup competition now concluded, Autry Kalulu’s youngsters will switch their attention to the First Capital Bank Under-19 League, which will commence soon.

Once again, we congratulate our youth team for the job well done to win the Africa Herbal Mix U-19 Cup!

Expectations

Having recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory away from home, the first team has the odds on their side to get the job done when they host the military side.

The Northern Region-based outfit has never won any league match against Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium, and in the last decade, they only registered a single victory over The People’s Team when they won 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium in the 2020/21 season.

The Women’s game is a bit tricky considering the opposition they are facing. But Chombo has assembled a very balanced squad comprising youngsters and experienced players and she will go for nothing but a win to advance to the final and keep the trophy in our cabinet.

For the Reserves, the lads have never lost any game whenever they travel to the Central Region. They successfully defended the Aubrey Dimba trophy and they are expected to start the Champions Cup campaign on a very high note.
