We travel to Mulanje Park on Sunday to take on FOMO FC in our final away match in the 2024 TNM Super League campaign.
This fixture comes days after we concluded our Central Region outing, where we collected two points from the possible six after drawing 0-2 against Silver Strikers and then surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Civil Service United.
These two results saw the defending champions drop out of the championship race. Now, the focus is on the Bullets to fight for second position from the remaining three games after rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers lost 1-0 to champions-elect Strikers on Saturday.
Facing a side fighting for survival in their maiden league season, it surely will not be an easy search for all three points at Mulanje Park, where we last played in 2022, beating Sable Farming 3-1 in the FDH Bank Cup Round of 32.
FORM GUIDE
Unbeaten in the last 15 games, Bullets go into this match straight from back-to-back draws against Silver and Civil to register our 13th draw, something that hasn’t happened to The People’s Team in the last 12 years.
For the first time in a decade, the Bullets are yet to reach a 50-point mark after 27 games, and if Wanderers win their remaining two games, Bullets could finish outside the top two for the first time since the 2012 season.
Dropping four points last week means our maximum points are 55, the lowest we could get in a decade.
Going through the statistics, we have never lost a game in any competition at Mulanje Park.
Elvis Kafoteka’s men are sitting 14th in the table with 25 points from 27 games, two points adrift of safety.
FOMO lost 7-6 on penalties in their last game, away to another relegation-threatened side, Bangwe All Stars, in the Castel Challenge Cup Round of 16 match played at Balaka Stadium last Wednesday.
Before going down to Bangwe, the Mulanje side beat Creck Sporting Club 1-0 in the league to keep their survival hopes alive.
They have been a tough nut to crack when playing in their backyard as they have collected more points at home.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be the second meeting between Bullets and FOMO after the latter was promoted into the top-flight league at the end of last season.
In the first meeting, Pasuwa’s men defeated the rookies 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on 17 July.
TEAMS NEWS
Pasuwa will travel to Mulanje without Chrispin Mapemba. The young wingback is still out, awaiting an MRI scan on his injured ankle.
Defensive midfielder Frank Willard is suspended after accumulating three yellow cards, while Yankho Singo is back after serving his suspension against Civil. Our number 17 was sent off during our goalless draw against Silver Strikers last Saturday.
