Mkungula commits his future to Bullets

Clever Mkungula has signed a new contract with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, which will keep him at the club until at least January 2027.

The goalkeeper, 26, joined Bullets through our reserves in 2018. He earned his promotion in 2022 and has made 33 appearances for the first team.

Speaking to club media, Mkungula was excited to have committed to a long-term future with The People’s Team.

“I am very excited to have been given another chance to continue rendering my services to the club. I am very confident that I will add value to the club to fulfil our expectations,” he said.

The shot-stopper, who endured a frustrating season in 2024 due to a knee problem, added: “Injuries are part of every athlete. I had to focus on my healing, and I am now fully back, and I am pretty sure that I will perform better the way I was before the injury. I am looking forward to the 2025 season.”

He also commented on starting a new life with our new head coach Peter Mponda following the departure of Zimbabwean Kalisto Pasuwa.

“The new coach has been with me before as the assistant to Kalisto Pasuwa. There is nothing new, and I will work with him the way I gave it all during the time with the previous coach.”

Mkungula, who won the 2022 accolade as the Best Goalkeeper at Bullets, is hoping for a better season after losing three of the four titles we won in the 2023 campaign.

“It was just a bad period for the club. I am very sure that this season, we will have a better season because we have learnt our lessons. As players, we will work together to regain our lost glory.

Coach Peter Mponda said it was important for the club to retain the services of such a young, talented goalkeeper.

“He is very young and has plenty of years to play football. He is one of the best young goalkeepers in the country, and as young as he is, his stats are impressive. He is very comfortable playing from the back and very comfortable with his footwork. In short, he is the modern-day goalkeeper who will play an important role for the club.”
