National Women’s Championship postponed

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will not be travelling to Lilongwe for the Goshen National Women’s Championship following the postponement of the tournament, which was scheduled to roll out on 22 April.

The Football Association of Malawi announced postponing the week-long 10-team women’s football competition on Saturday.

“The Football Association of Malawi would like to inform its stakeholders that the Goshen National Women’s Championship which was scheduled to take place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe between 22-28 April 2024 has been postponed,” wrote FAM in a media release.

The statement states: “FAM in conjunction with the sponsors Goshen Trust have pushed the games to early May to finalise procurement and tournament organisation preparations. FAM regrets the inconvenience caused by the development”.

Our women’s team, looking to reclaim the national championship, was slated to open the campaign on Tuesday against MDF Lioness.

The FAM National Women’s Championship comprises the three top teams from each of the 2023 FAM Regional Women’s Football Leagues, plus one team which won the playoffs for the three leagues’ fourth-placed teams.

The national champions will represent Malawi at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier to be held in Durban, South Africa, later this year.
