Nkhoma scores first Malawi goal

Share

Lanjesi Nkhoma scored his first goal for Malawi, equalizing as the Flames came from behind to draw 1-1 against Mozambique in an international friendly at Zimpeto Stadium on Wednesday.

Our forward was handed his senior debut in the training match as the Flames prepare for next week’s Africa Cup of Nations Group D qualifier against Ethiopia in Maputo on Tuesday.

Nkhoma, who was included in the 24-member squad alongside our defensive duo of Blessings Mpokera and Alick Lungu, was named in Patrick Mabedi’s starting XI.

Malawi went down in the 56th minute when Telinho gave the hosts a lead early in the second half and the 26-year-old, who is currently leading in the scorer’s chart in the TNM Super League with eight goals, levelled with a beautiful finish in the 74th minute.

Our left-back Lungu also played the entire 90 minutes while Chikumbutso Salima, who is on loan at Bangwe All Stars was introduced late in the final half.

Congratulations to Nkhoma for scoring his first goal for the senior national team.
