FCB Nyasa Big Bullets recorded a tenth draw of this TNM Super League campaign following a 0-0 stalemate away to Mzuzu City Hammers on Wednesday afternoon at Mzuzu Stadium.
Despite the scoreless draw, The People’s Team moved to third position in the standings.
Providing his post-match reaction, head coach Kalisto Pasuwa believes if his charges had pressed the acceleration pedal in the first half the way they pressed for a goal towards the end of the match, Bullets could have collected all the points.
“A game that we had few chances of scoring. Most of the time, we were trying to hit long balls; hence, you saw that Babatunde Adepoju was left frustrated by Chikumbutso Henderson and lost concentration.
“But it’s how we get into the attacking third to get a goal. In the dying minutes of the game, we were very offensive, and we created three clear-cut chances, which they defended well. Had we started the match the same way we had ended, we could have been talking about something different, but all in all, it was a good showing from the boys,” explained Pasuwa.
Commenting further on our failure to find the back of the net, our head coach believes fatigue took its toll on us facing the Hammers 72 hours after playing Baka City.
“Remember, we are coming from another game, and it affected these boys. We had to put on new legs, and some of the players who hadn’t been playing hence you saw that performance maybe in the dying minutes of the game where we had more energy to score a goal or two, but unfortunately, we couldn’t.”
The 2023 quadruple-winning coach went on to ask for more support from our fans as we continue to push for results in our quest to defend the league title.
“We are trying our best to have good results, but unfortunately, football has three results. As coaches, we plan to win, but we end up getting a point and sometimes a defeat. You need to take it from there and do your homework. We just need to keep working hard so that our supporters return to us. We still need them.”
Whether the midweek result was a point gained or two points dropped, Pasuwa said: “It’s a point gained. Remember, we are playing games frequently, and we were away from home. We can’t say we have lost; we can’t complain.
“Remember, we have played so many games within 15 days, so many games, and there is no opportunity for the players to rest, which is not normal in football, but the boys fought hard, and we are returning to Blantyre with four points. We will take each game as it comes.”
Following Wednesday’s game, The People’s Team will host Mafco FC on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.
