Kalisto Pasuwa believes his players are regaining their confidence as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets scored four goals to beat Chitipa United 4-2 in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In a campaign they have had an unimpressive run, the defending champions scored three goals in less than half an hour in a game they needed to bounce back from Thursday’s narrow defeat to relegation-threatened Bangwe All Stars.
Babatunde Adepoju netted a brace for The People’s Team as Precious Sambani and Maxwell scored the other goals for Pasuwa’s men, who recorded a bigger margin in the league this campaign, despite conceding twice.
During his post-match presser, our head coach told journalists that he is working on the mental aspect of his players to regain their confidence as the Malawi champions continue searching for points to move to a better position in the standings.
“When we scored the three goals [in the first half], we thought we had wrapped it up, but our opponents came hard on us and scored a goal early in the second half. This has everything to do with the mental aspect of [our players] and we need to work on this so that they regain confidence.
“I have been talking about this mental part. They have been losing games and this is new to these players who won everything last season, and they didn’t expect this to be happening to them.
“We have been doing a lot in terms of the mental aspect of it to say you are the same players that won everything last season, but this year, you are losing games. What is it that is making us lose these games? And they are now starting to believe in themselves again hence winning today,” explained Pasuwa.
Sunday’s victory over Christopher Nyambose’s men saw Bullets moving a single place to ninth in the table after playing 18 games, a very unusual position for a team that won all the domestic silverware last season.
Hoping to win the league title for a sixth straight year, The People’s Team will continue the hunt for points at home on Wednesday, hosting fourth-placed rookies Creck Sporting Club at home.
Pasuwa’s men will then be on the road away in the North where two league fixtures await, starting with a trip to Karonga to face Baka City and Mzuzu City Hammers will be next in the Green City before the October international break.
