Kalisto Pasuwa was left frustrated by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ failure to handle pressure when in the lead as the defending champions gave away a 2-goal lead before scoring the winner to record a 3-2 victory against Creck Sporting Club in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.
Maxwell Phodo and Babatunde Adepoju had given the defending champions a half-time lead, but two minutes into the second half, Muhammad Sulumba scored a brace to put the game at 2-2 before we secured a win with a 55th-minute header from Ernest Petro.
During his post-match interview, Pasuwa could not hide his disappointment at how his team conceded against the visiting Creck, 72 hours after Bullets also let in two goals against Chitipa United to win 4-2 on Sunday.
“A victory again, but we can’t keep a clean sheet. We play well in the first half and come the second half, we lose concentration to concede the same type of goals, same minutes again.
“I am not happy with how we defended. I think we need to do more to go back to where we were last season; otherwise, it’s very disappointing to be conceding similar goals in every match,” he expressed his frustration.
“It’s the lack of concentration and the mental strength whenever we are leading by becoming more comfortable to say the game is over when 45 more minutes are next to be played. Any slight mistake we are being punished on the counter and I think by now, we should have been somewhere in terms of correcting our mistakes. We can’t be repeating the same type of mistakes every game we play,” added Pasuwa, who won every domestic silverware with Bullets last season.
On the other hand, the Bullets head coach was happy to have gained three points, saying this will help bring back the same belief in his players who have been struggling for points in the league.
“Offensively, we are doing well. We can score goals after we struggled to score them in the previous matches, but now the concern is our failure to defend our goal. However, I am happy with today’s result because this win will help me bring back the confidence in the boys.
“They were used to winning games and all of a sudden, they are struggling to get results and for them to accept the situation, it wasn’t easy hence failing to come to terms with what was happening but with this win, I am sure we will get back to our winning ways and hope to see what happens in the end.”
The People’s Team is now seventh in the standings with 30 points from 19 games.
After Wednesday’s victory, Bullets will be on the road for two assignments away in the North against Baka City at Karonga Stadium on Sunday, and Mzuzu City Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium next Wednesday.
