FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Under-19 secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brothers In Arms in the FCB Katswiri Under-19 League at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday morning.
Chawanangwa Mhango opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Josephy Jimu brought the hosts level six minutes later.
Dickson Kameza struck two minutes before the end of regulation time, finishing from Blessings Lungu’s pass to seal all three points for Bullets Under-19.
Mhango Gives Bullets The Lead
The visitors started brightly, pressing high and looking to unsettle the Brothers In Arms defence.
Hassan Madula sent a dangerous cross into the box in the fifth minute, but the hosts dealt with it before Gomezgani Maziya’s free-kick four minutes later took a deflection and went behind for a corner.
Osman George delivered from the resulting set piece, but his cross carried beyond the far side of the box.
Bullets continued to threaten from corners, with Willy Demakube heading over from Lungu’s delivery in the 12th minute.
Five minutes later, George won possession and picked out Mhango’s run. The forward delivered across the box for Madula, whose first-time effort struck the post.
Brothers In Arms responded with a corner, but Kelvin Phiri cleared the danger before Hassan Assima produced a fine save to deny Victor Chimenya from distance in the 21st minute.
The breakthrough arrived three minutes later.
Mike Kalanda swung a corner into the box, and Lungu’s touch fell kindly for Mhango to finish and put Bullets Under-19 in front.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage shortly afterwards when another Kalanda corner created an opening, but Yankho Chapata kept out the effort.
Brothers In Arms levelled in the 30th minute when Jimu beat his marker and finished into an empty net.
The hosts grew into the game after restoring parity, while Bullets continued to look for openings. Kalanda fired wide after a promising attacking move as both sides pushed for a second goal.
Neither could find the breakthrough before the interval, with the scores level at 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Kameza Seals Away Win
Brothers In Arms made a double change at the start of the second half, with Bullets also introducing Kameza for Kelvin Phiri in the 41st minute.
The hosts won a corner immediately after the restart, but Gomezgani Maziya cleared the danger.
Madula then saw an effort deflected behind in the 45th minute, with the hosts dealing with the resulting corner.
Kameza came agonisingly close three minutes later when his effort struck the post. Kalanda delivered the resulting corner, but the hosts cleared their lines.
Brothers In Arms made another change in the 48th minute before Bullets introduced Hopeson Mkhata for goalscorer Mhango in the 52nd minute.
Assima was called into action again in the 61st minute, making a strong save to keep out Pemphero Molande’s free-kick.
The hosts continued to apply pressure, but Bullets remained organised, with Kalanda clearing another dangerous corner in the 66th minute.
At the other end, Mkhata headed wide from a corner before George combined with Lungu to create another opening.
George went close again in the 71st minute, but his effort was dealt with by the goalkeeper.
Bullets continued to probe, and six minutes later George delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but Mkhata could not get the finishing touch.
The pressure finally paid off in the 78th minute.
Lungu picked out Kameza, who kept his composure to slot the ball inside the near post and restore Bullets’ lead.
Brothers In Arms searched for an equaliser and won a corner in the 80th minute, but the resulting effort sailed wide.
Five minutes of stoppage time were added, during which Thole Sachenja came on for Lungu in the 82nd minute.
Brothers In Arms pushed forward in the closing stages, but Bullets held firm to see out a hard-fought 2-1 away victory.
Fodya Praises Character
Bullets Under-19 head coach Fodya praised his side’s character and response after being pegged back by Brothers In Arms, while acknowledging that there are areas of their game that still need improvement.
“We are happy with the result because the boys showed good character, especially after Brothers In Arms equalised. They continued to work hard, kept creating chances and eventually got the second goal.
“We created several good chances, which is positive, but we need to be more clinical. We should have scored more goals from the opportunities we created.
“Now we turn our attention to Manchester Motors. It will be another important game and another opportunity for the boys to show what they can do. We will go back to training, work on the areas where we were not good enough and continue to improve as a team.
“We are happy with the three points, but there is still a lot of work to do. The boys are gaining valuable experience from these games, and we want to keep building on that as we prepare them for the next level.”
