First Team: Bullets Advance to Cup Semis
Castel Challenge Cup Quarterfinal | Kamuzu Stadium | Saturday
The senior team secured a 2–0 victory over Mighty Tigers FC, booking their spot in the semifinals of the 2025 Castel Challenge Cup.
Maxwell Phodo opened the scoring in the 5th minute and added his second goal 15 minutes later, demonstrating composure and clinical finishing to put Bullets firmly in control.
Phodo’s brace took his tally in the Castel Challenge Cup 2025 edition to seven goals, putting him firmly in the race for the Golden Boot. Yamikani Mologeni, who set up the forward’s second goal, now has four assists in the competition, all of them for Phodo’s goals.
The People’s Team dominated key phases of the match and managed the game professionally, marking another important cup milestone.
The semifinal draw pairs Bullets with Mzuzu City Hammers, who advanced after defeating Mighty Wanderers FC 5–3 on penalties following a 1–1 draw. This marks Bullets’ third Castel Cup semifinal appearance and a repeat of last season’s last-four clash, where Hammers advanced on penalties after a goalless draw.
Interim head coach Gilbert Chirwa acknowledged: “It will be a difficult stage for us, but I am confident the players will be ready for whoever comes our way. At this point of the competition, these challenges are unavoidable.”
The upcoming fixture presents Bullets with a chance for redemption and silverware, with the team narrowly missing on the TNM Super League and the FDH Bank Cup after clinching the Airtel Top 8.
