The midfielder’s inclusion gives FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women a second representative in Malawi’s squad for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women midfielder Lyna James has joined the Scorchers in Morocco for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after receiving a late call-up to the Malawi National Women’s Football Team.
James arrived in Mohammedia on Saturday alongside Konkola Blades Queens midfielder Chisomo Banda and former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women midfielder Tendai Sani of ZISD Women, with the trio joining the rest of the national team squad as preparations continue for the continental tournament.
James was initially among four Bullets Women players named in Malawi’s 32-member provisional squad announced in June, alongside goalkeeper Thoko Mwase, defender Benedetta Mkandawire and forward Mary Chavinda.
Although she was not included in the initial final squad, James’ addition now sees Bullets Women represented by two players, with the midfielder joining fellow Bullets Women player Benedetta Mkandawire in the Scorchers camp.
James and Mkandawire will represent Bullets Women during Malawi’s historic maiden appearance at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with the Scorchers drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt.
Malawi will open their campaign against Nigeria on 28 July at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
The Scorchers will then face Egypt at Moulay Hassan Stadium on 1 August before concluding their group-stage fixtures against regional rivals Zambia at Al Madina Stadium on 5 August.
Everyone at FCB Nyasa Big Bullets congratulates James on joining the Scorchers squad and wishes both her and Benedetta Mkandawire every success at the tournament. The Club also wishes the entire Malawi squad all the best as they prepare to make history on their maiden appearance at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
