FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to TNM Super League action with an away fixture against Creck Sporting Club at Civo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
This is our first trip to the Capital City in the 2024 Super League campaign as we resume our title defence following the FIFA International Break and the demise of the country’s Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight other officials in a plane crash.
Our meeting with the rookies comes after our first league defeat of the season to league leaders Silver Strikers.
Sunday’s opponents have accumulated the same number of points as Kalisto Pasuwa’s men and they go into this match on a high note following their hard-fought 2-1 away win over Mafco FC.
FORM GUIDE
For the first time since the 2016/17 season, The People’s Team has had a tough start to a league campaign. In nine games, Bullets have only collected 14 points, registering three wins, five draws and one defeat. At this stage last season, we had 21 points.
The defending champions have collected all the points over Chitipa United, Baka City and Mzuzu City Hammers, drawing against Dedza Dynamos, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Mafco FC, Mighty Tigers and Moyale Barracks.
Before the break, we succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to the Central Bankers, who scored in the 90th minute to break the hearts of the home fans, who experienced their first defeat at Kamuzu Stadium after three years.
Our opponents have had a good start to their first-ever league campaign by winning the first two games against Tigers and Moyale. They recorded two back-to-back defeats to Wanderers and Mzuzu City before earning a point away to Karonga United. They are sitting in eighth position with 14 points, finding the back of the net 12 times while conceding 13 goals.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
It’s the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Lilongwe-based side earned promotion to the top-flight league after winning the 2023 Chipiku Central Region Football League as Kawinga FC before rebranding to their current name.
BULLETS V NEWLY-PROMOTED TEAMS
In the last seven seasons, we have only lost twice to newcomers in their debut seasons. Both defeats came in the 2023 season in which we lost 1-0 to Chitipa United and Dedza Dynamos.
TEAM NEWS
Pasuwa received a massive boost to his squad ahead of Sunday afternoon’s away encounter. Chikumbutso Salima and Frank Willard returned to full training after their lengthy absence due to injuries.
However, the defending champions will still be without Maxwell Phodo, Ephraim Kondowe, Alick Lungu, Mike Mkwate, Colin Mujuru and Clever Mkungula, who are still recuperating.
