Bullets smash Red Lioness 8-2 to maintain unbeaten run

The unstoppable form continues for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women as they opened up a five-point gap with an 8-2 victory over Red Lioness in the 2024 Goshen-FAM Women’s League at Mpira Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The in-form Tendai Sani magnificently recorded a double hat-trick while Fauzah Mohammed and Asiyatu George scored one goal each to secure an emphatic win for our ladies’ team.

What happened

For the first minutes, Bullets settled in the opponent’s half with several attempts but the visitors had formed a very tight defense, denying Maggie Chombo’s girls entry.

Mohammed made the first attempt which went over the post and moments later Sani and Racheal Matemba came knocking but goalkeeper Linda Gikangwa produced unbelievable saves.

Thirteen minutes later the breakthrough arrived when George sent a brilliant pass to Sani and the midfielder produced a calm finish to put us in front.

A minute later George also registered her name on the score sheet with a cool finish after being found by Pilirani Malora’s excellent pass.

Sani threatened again in the 24th minute but her kick went over the post.

For the first time, the visitors made an attempt when Judith Zowawasa produced a volley that left our goalkeeper Bridget Malemia down. Captain Sharon Dzimau was very alert to clear the danger away.

35 minutes into the game, the visitors scored from the spot through Margret Abel after Bullets committed a foul in the penalty area.

The second half began with the lady Bullets settling in the visitors’ half with Matamando Makawa registering back-to-back attempts but never hitting the target.

Maggie Chombo made her first substitution early in the final period, introducing Caroline Mulenzo for Asiyatu George. A few moments later Sani completed a hattrick as she scored a sumptuous goal leaving the whole Red Lioness’ defence beaten.

Sani then came with quick-fire in the box with Mohammed as her provider in making back-to-back scores in the 59th and 70th minute.

Loti Chawinga’s side then pulled another one back through Zowawasa, who scored in the 83rd minute, before Mohammed scored our seventh goal five minutes later.

Sani then added another one to make it 8-2 and seal the victory two minutes into the stoppage time.

What it means

Following this win, Maule ladies have created a five-point gap lead at the top of the log table as they are now leading with 21 points from seven games, while the defending champions Kukoma Ntopwa are second with 16 points from the same number of games.

What Chombo said after the game

“Seven games, seven wins, I don’t know how to thank these girls. I’m delighted with their performances; they are showing that they are really hungry to win back the championship. It wasn’t easy, the visitors made a very strong defence in their half, but the ladies managed to get through them eight times, which is pleasing.”
