FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Lloyd Aaron was on target and provided an assist to help Malawi beat Burkina Faso 3-0 at the Bingu National Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Four Bullets players played a significant part as the Flames collected all three points against The Stallions in what was Group L’s final match of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nation qualifiers.
Aaron, Alick Lungu, Gomezgan Chirwa and Yankho Singo all started for Malawi as Richard Chimbamba and Nickson Nyasulu remained on the bench for Kalisto Pasuwa’s side.
How they fared…
Alick Lungu
Another 90 minutes for the left-back, another sturdy display from him. Just like the way he carried himself in the previous game away to Burundi last Thursday, Lungu presented a confident performance against Burkina Faso at home.
Gomezgani Chirwa
The full-back made himself an important part of the Flames back-line that has managed brilliantly to keep The Stallions at bay for the entire match. It was a performance that lasted him full-time for the first time in as many games for Malawi. Seamlessly, our club captain seems to be breaking back into the national team setup.
Yankho Singo
After being handed his Malawi debut last week, the lines on his graph seem to know only the way up. The young midfielder continues to be the vacuum cleaner for the Flames in the middle of the park, winning possession and getting rolling with such solid composure against the Group L runners-up.
Singo was directly involved in Malawi’s opening goal as he released the ball to his former teammate at Bullets, Patrick Mwaungulu, who then set up Gabadinho Mhango to pounce from outside the 18-yard area in the 26th minute.
He was subbed off 11 minutes from time, probably impressed with his input in Malawi’s win in Lilongwe.
Lloyd Aaron
Enjoyed what is so far his best performance for Malawi. Our midfielder ran the show on Monday afternoon, scoring and assisting against the West African giants.
He executed what was a sublime delivery from down the line to find Richard Mbulu who had the simplest task to head it home and double the Flames lead in the 57th minute.
Four minutes later Aaron put the contest to bed as he punished some sloppy defending from the visitors with a clinical finish inside the penalty area.
Unused subs
While the four enjoyed quite a pulsating display against the 2013 Afcon finalists, reserved on the bench were Richard Chimbamba and Nickson Nyasulu as they still wait for their first involvement since their recalls to the Flames.
