Bullets’ stats in opening five league matches since 2020

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have kicked off the 2025 TNM Super League season with the most impressive start in the past five years.

Under Peter Mponda’s guidance, we celebrated our fifth straight victory on Sunday afternoon, dispatching Chitipa United with a commanding 3-0 result. This win not only preserves Maule’s flawless record but also firmly secures the place at the league’s summit after five matches.

With Sunday’s triumph, The People’s Team has achieved 15 points from the opening five games, finding the back of the net 16 times and letting in just one goal—a feat we haven’t matched for five seasons.

Before looking ahead to Matchweek 6, let’s examine Bullets’ first five-game performances over each of the previous five seasons.

2020/21 Season

The 2020/21 campaign began in December, following Malawi Government’s suspension of sporting activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic—a move that left teams with minimal preparation.

Bullets’ season opener was a tough draw against Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium, hampered by limited preseason and players lacking peak fitness.

Despite a less-than-ideal start, that single point set the tone for the season. Next, Bullets traveled to Karonga Stadium to take on both Karonga United and Chitipa United.

Unlike today, teams then endured two matches within 24 hours, often traversing long distances with little rest.

After a narrow 1-0 defeat to Karonga United, Bullets bounced back with a 2-0 win over Chitipa United the following day, tallying three points from those two outings up North.

Returning home, Bullets faced Red Lions and, despite letting a 1-0 lead slip to a 3-1 halftime deficit, the now-relegated Zomba side managed a spirited comeback to draw 3-3.

Four games in, Bullets had gathered five points out of a possible 12. Shortly after, a COVID-19 outbreak among players and staff forced a pause in fixtures. Upon resuming, Bullets hosted Moyale Barracks, claiming an emphatic 5-1 victory.

By the end of the first five matches, the team had secured eight points from a possible 15, netting ten goals and conceding five.

2022 Season

The 2022 season saw Bullets enjoying one of their finest starts in recent years, winning four of their first five matches and amassing 13 points from a possible 15.

The campaign opened on a high with a decisive victory over rivals Mighty Wanderers, setting the pace for what was to come.

A 3-1 win over Mzuzu City Hammers followed, and a 1-1 away draw against Blue Eagles saw us dropping points for the first time that term. Travelling to Balaka Stadium proved fruitful as Bullets edged Dedza Dynamos 1-0.

The People’s Team ended the month on top after a closely fought 1-0 win against Mafco, sitting just two points above Wanderers. With seven goals scored, two conceded, and 13 points claimed, our momentum was unmistakable.

2023 Season

This is a season that was marked by a historic quadruple victory. The league opener against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium finished 1-1.

Back at Kamuzu Stadium in week two, Bullets dominated Mafco 4-0 before heading to Lilongwe to defeat Extreme FC 1-0 at Civo Stadium.

Kalisto Pasuwa’s men, then, continued a strong form with a 3-1 home win over Moyale Barracks and a 2-0 away victory against Bangwe All Stars at Mpira Stadium. After five games, Bullets led the standings with 13 points, narrowly ahead of Silver Strikers, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two.

2024 Season

The 2024 season was a challenging one for Bullets, enduring our poorest start to a league campaign in over seven years.

The People’s Team picked up just nine points from the opening five matches. After back-to-back draws with Dedza Dynamos and Mighty Tigers, we registered our first win—a convincing 3-0 victory over Chitipa United.

Returning to Kamuzu Stadium, we defeated Baka City 2-1 and followed with a 1-1 draw against Wanderers, totalling seven goals scored and three conceded. These results left us 8th in the standings at this stage.

2025 Season

This season, after reigniting our form, Bullets have opened the campaign with five straight victories, 16 goals scored, and just one conceded.

Our run began with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over the reigning champions, Silver Strikers, and continued with a commanding 4-1 win against Creck Sporting Club at Kamuzu Stadium.

Bullets then registered a resounding 7-0 victory over newcomers Songwe Border United, a narrow 1-0 win against Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos, and capped off with a 3-0 defeat of Chitipa United.

As we gear up for Saturday’s clash with Kamuzu Barracks, Mponda’s side looks determined to sustain the promising momentum in pursuit of an 18th league championship.
