Fodya: Our prospects are promising

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Under 19s coach Yamikani Fodya is confident in his team’s potential, expressing optimism for the young squad despite relinquishing the African Herbal Mixture Cup and securing a fourth-place finish in the 2025 edition.

The young Bullets fell short in the third-place playoff at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, losing 5-4 to CC Stars in a penalty shootout.

“It was a decent performance from us; penalties are always unpredictable. I have to commend the boys—they put into practice everything we’ve taught them. The shootout outcome isn’t something we can pin on them,” Fodya commented after the final whistle.

Our former captain—who retired after a remarkable 14-year career with Bullets before he embraced a new challenge as the youth side coach in 2024—emphasized the team’s role in nurturing young talent.

“Our main priority is nurturing players. While victory eluded us this time, the real achievement lies in the progress our boys are making. Winning trophies isn’t our only goal—we’re dedicated to teaching them how to play good football,” Fodya shared.

While commending the opposing team effort to secure the victory against our youngsters, Fodya expressed unwavering faith in his squad’s potential.

“Football is unpredictable—you win some, you lose some. We congratulate our opponents. But based on our players’ performances, we are confident the future holds great promise for us.”

Fodya’s words reinforce the club’s commitment to long-term player development over immediate results, as the young Bullets look ahead with optimism and determination. Notably, four players from our Under-19s advanced to the reserves earlier this month.
