FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to TNM Super League action on Wednesday afternoon with a midweek home fixture against Moyale Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium.
Ahead of the match, head coach Peter Mponda addressed the media, discussing team preparations, expectations for the opposition, and providing fitness updates.
Below is the full transcript of his media briefing:
On Managing the Tight Schedule
“It’s true the games are coming thick and fast, but we have a good squad and depth to manage that. Every team is dealing with the same schedule, so there’s no reason to complain—we just have to take it one game at a time.
“In terms of injuries, the squad is in good shape. Apart from Crispin Mapemba, who’s still recovering from his long-term injury, everyone is available and training well. We’ll pick players who can give us 100%.”
On Maintaining Focus Despite League Standings
“The players are no longer focusing on being dislodged by Wanderers at the top of the table. Our priority is on our own performances and results. If we win our games and stick to our plan, everything else will take care of itself.
“We’re not stressing about the log table. The boys are playing good football and enjoying themselves—that’s the most important thing.”
On Facing a Resilient Moyale Side
“Moyale are a strong side. Yes, their recent results haven’t gone their way, but they remain a solid team. We’re playing at Kamuzu Stadium and our goal is to dominate and win.
“The players are hungry. You could see that from how we handled Karonga—it wasn’t an easy game, but we dug deep and got the result. That mentality is what’s driving us forward.”
On Kajoke’s Progress and Attacking Competition
“He’s improving, but there’s still more to come. Of course, we’re happy with the goals he’s scored—they’ve been important for us. But we’re still pushing him to give more.
“Babatunde has been consistent, doing his job. Ephraim too—he hasn’t played as much, but every time he comes in, he gives a good account of himself. Kajoke knows there’s competition in the team, and he’s responded well. He has a long way to go, but I’m very happy with how he’s performing.”
On the Fitness of Musonda and Henderson
“Dominic is very close. He’s probably two or three games away from full fitness, but he can already give us about 45 minutes if needed. We’re still working on him, though, and the defenders currently playing have been solid—apart from the last game, where we weren’t quite as sharp at the back.
“He’s knocking on the door, but he’ll have to fight to earn his place back in the lineup.
“As for Henderson, he’s still a bit far in terms of fitness. But we know we’ll need his experience and aerial presence in some games this season. We’re not putting him under pressure—he’ll come back when the time is right.”
