FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are gearing up for a crucial Castel Challenge Cup quarterfinal away to Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday.
Having lifted the Airtel Top 8 and finishing second in the league last month, The People’s Team now have a chance to add another trophy before wrapping up the 2025 season.
Following a weekend off after progressing to the Last 8 of the Castel Cup, the squad has been back in training this week, putting in the hard work and preparing for the challenge that awaits on Saturday.
Interim head coach Gilbert Chirwa has been closely monitoring player fitness and availability, making sure the squad is fully prepared for the clash.
Chirwa highlighted key returns to the squad. Defender Blessings Mpokera rejoined last week and made a substitute appearance against Ndirande, helping stabilize the defence. Midfielders Peter Banda and Lameck Gamphani have also rejoined the team this week.
“Peter Banda is back after he was withdrawn during the Round of 32 against Songwe due to injury,” Chirwa confirmed. “Mpokera’s return last week has strengthened our backline. Gamphani is still working on his fitness and will need time, but overall, it’s very positive that these players are back in the squad.”
The head coach also confirmed there are no fresh injury concerns. Only Chrispin Mapemba and Aaron Chilipa remain sidelined, with the rest of the squad fully fit and available.
Chirwa also spoke about the four youngsters recently promoted from the Bullets Reserves squad. “They are good players. We’ve been assessing them in the reserves, which is why we’ve promoted them — they’ve shown quality and potential at that level,” he said.
With key players back and the squad in good shape, Bullets head into the quarterfinal full of confidence, aiming to build on strong performances earlier in the competition.
Maule are encouraged to turn out and back the team as we aim to progress further in the Castel Challenge Cup, with a semifinal spot against either Mzuzu City Hammers or Mighty Wanderers at stake.
