Goalkeeper McLean Mwale has signed a three-year contract with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, completing his move to The People’s Team.
The shot-stopper joins the club after Bullets reached a transfer agreement with Karonga United last month, finalising his move after agreeing personal terms.
Speaking to club media, Mwale said the move to Bullets represents a major step forward in his career.
“I believe this move will help me improve my game as a footballer. It is always a dream for every player to move to a bigger and better club. This is a lifetime opportunity that you cannot afford to miss,” he said.
The goalkeeper revealed that he was overwhelmed with excitement when he first learned of the club’s interest in signing him.
“It was the happiest day of my career. It has always been my wish to join this club. Every player out there wants this opportunity and when I heard about their interest in me, I couldn’t resist the offer. I chose Bullets because it’s the biggest team in Malawi.”
Mwale added that he is eager to contribute to the club’s continued success.
“I want to win trophies as well. I will work extra hard so that I can achieve a lot. I have seen this team winning trophies and I want to be part of that success.”
Reflecting on his journey, Mwale spoke about his development through the clubs he represented earlier in his career.
“It has been a good journey for me—from Tigers to Extreme FC and then Karonga United. I kept developing at every step and now I am here. It’s by God’s grace and I don’t take it for granted.”
The goalkeeper also acknowledged the expectations that come with representing Malawi’s most successful club but said he is ready for the challenge.
“Bullets is the biggest team in Malawi with a massive fan base. As a player, I need to have confidence so that I do not let the team down. It’s a challenge to play for this club, but I am ready to adapt and be part of this great team.”
Mwale spent two seasons with Karonga United and paid tribute to the club and its supporters for their role in his development.
“I would like to thank the people of Karonga for the two wonderful years I spent at the club. They welcomed me warmly and made my stay memorable. I also thank my teammates for their support and I encourage them to keep working hard for their careers and the club.”
During his time at Karonga United, Mwale helped the team reach the Airtel Top 8 semifinals, where they narrowly lost 2-1 to Bullets at Bingu National Stadium.
He also played a key role in the club’s top-eight finish in the TNM Super League, keeping 10 clean sheets during the campaign.
