FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head north this weekend for an FDH Bank Premiership meeting with Karonga United at Karonga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Matchweek 13 fixture, scheduled to kick off at 14:30, offers Wedson Nyirenda’s side an opportunity to build on last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Chitipa United at Mpira Stadium.
Bullets dominated long spells of that contest but were made to wait until the closing stages for the breakthrough. Captain Blessings Mpokera converted from the penalty spot in the 80th minute before Clever Kalambo struck two minutes later to seal the points.
That victory lifted our tally to 23 points from 12 matches and kept us firmly in touch with the teams setting the pace.
Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles occupy the top two positions with 25 points each, while Mighty Wanderers sit third, level with Bullets on 23 points but ahead on goal difference.
The narrow margins at the summit leave Nyirenda’s men with plenty to play for as the first round approaches its decisive stretch.
Sunday’s trip also presents Bullets with the chance to record back-to-back league victories for the first time since beating Masters FC and Creck Sporting in successive matches at the turn of July.
After taking one point from meetings with Ekhaya FC and Goshen City Dedza Dynamos, last weekend’s response restored momentum ahead of a demanding journey to the Northern Region.
Karonga United enter the matchweek in 12th position, having collected 12 points from as many matches through three victories, three draws and six defeats.
Seven of those points have come at Karonga Stadium, where the hosts have won twice, drawn once and suffered three defeats.
Despite their position in the standings, Karonga’s home return points to a competitive contest as Bullets look to carry the control and attacking threat displayed against Chitipa into Sunday’s assignment.
With the leading four separated by only two points, every result carries added significance. A positive outcome in Karonga would allow The People’s Team to consolidate our place among the frontrunners and sustain the push towards the end of the first round.
