Bullets vs Wanderers match postponed

Nyasa Big Bullets’ match against BE Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in the TNM Super League has been postponed due to the Malawi national team’s COSAFA trip.

The Blantyre derby was slated for this Saturday, but will have to be rescheduled after the two teams have contributed more than three players to the Flames.

Malawi travels to South Africa on Sunday for the COSAFA tournament, which kicks off on July 6 and will run up to July 18.

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) on Tuesday issued a statement, signed by General Secretary Williams Banda, confirming the postponement.

“The Super League of Malawi  wishes to inform  the general public and all football  stakeholders that  the Nyasa Big Bullets vs  Mighty Be Forward Wanderers game has  been rescheduled to  a later  date  in line with  the Sulom Rules and Regulations that stipulate that any team that contributes more than  three players to National Team  engagement  shall be exempted from playing games,” reads the communication.

From Bullets, Flames coach Meck Mwase called eleven players, namely Ernest Kakhobwe, Richard Chimbamba, Zicco Mkanda, Hassan Kajoke, Mike Mkwate, Chimwemwe Idana, Nickson Nyasulu, Gomegzani Chirwa, Blessings Mpokera, Eric Kaonga and Meshack Seleman into his 39-member provisional squad for the forthcoming competition.

The Football Association of Malawi is yet to announce the team traveling to South Africa, however it is likely that Bullets will contribute more than three players to the final squad.

It is the second time that we have had the Blantyre derby postponement this season, with the first tie between the two rivals in the first-round also being shifted from December 2020 and was played last month following the resumption of the games, which were earlier suspended due to Covid-19.

The match was abandoned at 1-1 due to protests. Bullets are currently top of the standings with 45 points from 21 games, while Wanderers come third with 37 points from the same number of games played.
