National Football Coaches Association of Malawi welcomes Nyirenda

The National Football Coaches Association of Malawi paid a courtesy visit to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Monday to officially welcome head coach Wedson Nyirenda to the country’s football fraternity following his appointment in June.

The National Football Coaches Association of Malawi (NFCA) on Monday officially welcomed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Wedson Nyirenda to the country’s football fraternity during a courtesy visit by the association.

Led by chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni, the association’s delegation congratulated the Zambian tactician on his appointment as head coach of the 17-time Malawian champions and wished him success during his tenure with The People’s Team.

The association believes Nyirenda’s arrival will benefit not only FCB Nyasa Big Bullets but Malawian football as a whole, thanks to his wealth of coaching experience, top-level qualifications and proven track record in the game.

It added that local coaches stand to gain valuable knowledge from the former Zambia national team head coach during his time in the country.

Nankhuni described Nyirenda’s arrival as a significant boost for the coaching fraternity, saying the association was eager to tap into his expertise to help strengthen coach education and technical development in Malawi.

“Today is a special day for the National Football Coaches Association because we are officially welcoming Coach Wedson Nyirenda into our family. It is part of our tradition to receive visiting coaches and formally introduce them to the coaching fraternity in Malawi.

“When you look at Coach Nyirenda’s résumé and qualifications, it is clear that he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. At the moment, Malawi does not have a CAF Pro Licence coach, so his presence presents a valuable opportunity for our game.

“We look forward to engaging him on various technical matters and drawing on his expertise to help develop our coaches and strengthen football in the country,” said Nankhuni.

Nyirenda thanked the association for the warm reception, describing the gesture as an honour and a reflection of the welcoming football environment he has found in Malawi.

“This means a great deal to me. It is only fitting that I become part of the National Football Coaches Association, an organisation that looks after the interests of coaches in Malawi.

“Being welcomed in this manner gives me even greater confidence that I have come to a country where I am appreciated, and I look forward to working within the framework and values of Malawian football.

“Of course, my immediate responsibility is to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and the coaches I work with across the club—from the senior team to the reserves, the women’s team and the youth structures.

“Beyond that, I want to make myself available to the association whenever my experience is needed. Whether it is coaching courses, clinics or other technical programmes, I will always be ready to share my knowledge and contribute to the continued development of football in Malawi,” said Nyirenda.

Nyirenda took charge of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in June on a two-year contract, bringing more than two decades of coaching experience across Southern Africa.

A CAF Pro Licence holder, Nyirenda has led clubs in Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa—including ZESCO United, Zanaco, Ferroviário da Beira and Baroka FC—while also serving as head coach of the Zambia national team.
