FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to action this Sunday as they face off against Mighty Tigers in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Bullets’ first assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa offered updates on the squad ahead of the clash.
He discussed the status of players who have just returned after representing Malawi at the 2025 Hollywoodbets COSAFA tournament in South Africa.
The national side touched down on Wednesday following an early exit from the tournament, having finished at the bottom of Group B with only one point and missing out on a place in the semifinals.
Chirwa confirmed that midfielder Yankho Singo, who was forced off during Tuesday’s match against Angola, will be sidelined for Sunday’s league encounter. He also revealed that Chikumbutso Salima will miss the match as well, after picking up a knock in the same game.
“Players who were with the national team are back, though some of them are injured, like [Yankho] Singo and [Chikumbutso] Salima,” said Chirwa. “We also have [Hassan] Kajoke and Clyde [Senaji] out with injuries, and we will have to give them maybe a week or so to recover and come back.”
Speaking on behalf of head coach Peter Mponda—who was also in South Africa with the national team as Kalisto Pasuwa’s assistant—Chirwa assured that there is no need to worry about the absence of the four players, expressing confidence that the remaining squad will deliver when they take the field on Sunday.
“For sure, we are going to miss [Singo and Salima, who have been very key for us in the new season], but we have enough players to take their places and do the work.”
The former Bullets defender was also questioned about Peter Banda’s progress, to which he responded: “We don’t want to rush him. This is his second week training with us [since he returned from injury], and he’s doing fine, showing his brilliance, and we believe we will feature him in the near future.”
As Matchweek 10 approaches, Bullets sit atop the league table with 18 points from seven matches, while Tigers occupy tenth place with 10 points from eight games.
