Eight Bullets called up to Malawi squad for CHAN

Malawi national team Head Coach, Marian Mario Marinica, has named eight Nyasa Big Bullets players in his provisional squad for this month’s TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Mozambique.

The Flames begin their bid for a spot in the 2024 CHAN tournament to be held in Algeria, locking horns with The Mambas, who progressed to this final qualification round after beating Zambia 1-0 in the two-legged affair.

Marinica’s men reached this stage without kicking a ball following FIFA’s refusal to lift sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe Football Association, a situation which saw Malawi progressing with a 6-0 margin.

In his 28-man squad, the Romanian has included goalkeeper Clever Mkungula alongside defenders Precious Sambani, Gomezgani Chirwa, Blessings Mpokera and Alick Lungu.

Chirwa, who has been consistent with his stellar performances both at the club and international level, missed the Cosafa tournament in South Africa due to passport issues.

Marinica has also retained midfielders Chimwemwe Idana and Patrick Mwaungulu.

Mwaungulu, a Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves graduate, earned his maiden Malawi senior team call-up last month for the COSAFA tournament where he featured in all three games that Malawi played.

The Flames mentor has this time handed Lanjesi Nkhoma his maiden senior team call-up. The enterprising forward, who is also in top form for the TNM Super League leaders, has three goals in all competitions this season.

We are wishing all our players the best of luck and we are hopeful to see them in the final squad.
