Eleven of Nyasa Big Bullets players have been called up by Meck Mwase for Flames’ 39-man provisional squad that will start training on Monday for the 2021 COSAFA Cup to be held in South Africa next month.
Among the new faces, Mwase has included Blessings Mpokera, Meshack Seleman and goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba, whilst Mike Mkwate, Gomezgani Chirwa, Zicco Mkanda and Hassan Kajoke have been recalled after their impressive form in the elite league.
The biggest test awaits Chimbamba, who spent the 2019 season on loan at Ntopwa FC, but has now cemented the number one position after taking over from Rabson Chiyenda and Ernest Kakhobwe who sustained injuries earlier this year.
Chimbamba has kept nine clean sheets for The People’s Team and when asked about his future plans, the 22-year-old shot stopper made it clear that he was eyeing a place in the national team which will be playing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
“I am looking forward to playing for the national team next year at Afcon. I don’t want to relax, I want to do better so that I would be able to convince the national team coach that I am capable of playing for my country at the Afcon next year,” Chimbamba told Club media earlier this week.
With this latest call up, an opportunity has risen for Chimbamba, who, if included in the final squad for the COSAFA, will have more playing time at the tournament.
On the other hand, Kajoke has returned to the team after missing out of the Afcon qualification squad due to disciplinary issues.
The 23-year-old has so far netted 10 goals in the TNM Super League.
