November Player of the Month nominees

Yankho Singo, Precious Phiri and Patrick Mwaungulu have been nominated for the Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month award for November.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets endured quite a tough ride last month as we only managed two wins from the six matches we played in all competitions.

Although results proved hard to get, the efforts of the trio could not go unnoticed by our technical panel, which has put them in the running for the prestigious monthly award.

We take a brief look at how the nominees performed in November.

Yankho Singo

After spending most of the season battling to shake off a nasty knee injury, the graduate from our reserves side broke into The People’s Team to claim more playing time under his belt in November.

To the surprise of many, Singo earned himself a start in the second Blantyre derby of the 2023 league campaign as we hosted our rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on 4 November. Up until he got subbed in the 64th minute of that fiercely contested 1-1 stalemate, the boy enjoyed quite an impressive afternoon of animated football in the middle of the park.

His ability to seize his chance in that big match saw him maintaining his place in the starting XI in the following fixtures against the now-relegated sides Red Lions and Blue Eagles. He wrapped up the month of November with a second-half involvement in our vital 1-0 win away at Karonga United.

By providing reliable displays at such a critical stage of the season after spending lengthy periods on the sidelines, Singo truly deserves his first-ever nomination for the Hubertus Clausius-sponsored monthly award.

Precious Phiri

What an incredible end to the season the general-fitting winger is having! After winning the POTM award in September and October, Phiri now makes three consecutive nominations for the monthly accolade.

Only missing a single tie out of the six matches we played in November, the former Mighty Tigers 27-year-old man continues to put in a zealous work rate for Maule, both defensively and when going forward.

It is his utility prowess that makes his name a regular in the constantly rotating Kalisto Pasuwa’s Bullets.

Patrick Mwaungulu

The midfield wizard took part in every match we played last month in all competitions and did so in a decorated manner.

On 8 November at the Balaka Stadium, Mwaungulu, into his second season with the first team coming from the reserves, salvaged a point for us in the TNM Super League against Red Lions with his witty volley to smuggle a goal at the near post.

He later put up a marvellous display against Blue Eagles in the Airtel Top 8 semi-final fixture which saw him winning the Man of the Match award after bagging a brace of assists.

On 29 November, when it looked like the defending champions were about to let the title charge slip, Mwaungulu scored the lone goal, an excellent header, away to Karonga United in the penultimate fixture of the league campaign.

With two goals, two assists and one Man of the Match award to his name, our number 29 deserves the nomination for Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month.
