Blessings Mpokera delivered a stellar defensive performance to claim his first-ever TNM Super League Player of the Match award as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets powered to a 4-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Since making his league debut, Mpokera has risen through the ranks with remarkable consistency, and on this occasion, he commanded the backline with calmness, authority, and unwavering resolve.
His contributions were vital to Peter Mponda’s team as they secured all three points, celebrated their fifth clean sheet of the campaign, and maintained the unbeaten run at the top of the table.
While much of the attention centered on Bullets’ four-goal haul, it was Mpokera’s rock-solid presence in defence—supported by Clyde Senaji and Yankho Singo—that laid the foundation for our comprehensive triumph.
Time and again, he foiled Kamuzu Barracks’ attacking threats with crucial interceptions, expertly marshaled the defence, and displayed remarkable composure. His flawless tackling and aerial prowess ensured that goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu enjoyed a largely untroubled afternoon.
The People’s Team set the tone early, with Mike Mkwate opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Chikumbutso Salima, Wongani Lungu, and Sean McBrams then joined the party, rounding off a dominant team display. While the forwards took center stage with their goals, it was Mpokera who anchored the side with discipline and balance from the back.
Reflecting on his accolade after the match, a beaming Mpokera said, “This means a lot to me. I thank God and my teammates—none of this would be possible without them. This award will only boost my confidence, and as we move forward, I’ll carry this momentum with me. To our fans, your belief is our greatest strength—you truly are our 12th player.”
With this emphatic result, Bullets not only extended the unbeaten streak but also tightened our grip at the top of the TNM Super League table. As the title race heats up, Mpokera’s emergence as a reliable defensive force could play a crucial role in the quest for an 18th league crown.
