Maxwell Phodo’s lone strike helped FCB Nyasa Big Bullets secure a place in the last four of the 2025 Airtel Top 8 semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Creck Sporting Club at Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday.
He found the back of the net in the 28th minute to break the deadlock in the second leg of the quarterfinal tie. The forward was named Player of the Match after the final whistle.
Phodo, excited for his delivered, dedicated his goal to teammates, saying the Bullets worked in unity to shoot a highly defensive Creck Sporting.
With the first-leg ending goalless, Bullets needed to work extra hard to unlock a resilient side that managed to frustrate us in the first leg of the quarterfinals.
“The biggest drive was that we came here for nothing but a win to progress to the next round,” he told club media.
“It was teamwork, not individual creation for me to score [the winning goal]. The coach told us that our opponents were congested in the middle of the park, and we needed to be more offensive to strike, and that’s exactly how we got the goal.
On the POTM accolade, his first in this competition since joining Bullets, the forward commented: “It’s something extraordinary. It’s a huge boost for me as a player. It encourages me to keep pushing and I thank God for this.”
This was Phodo’s third goal in the competition, having netted two goals against Civil Service United in the 2023 quadruple-winning season.
