Up in the running for the Precious Medical International Goal of the Month award for October are strikes from Maxwell Phodo, Ronald Chitiyo, Lameck Gamphani, Babatunde Adepoju, Chawanangwa Gumbo, Precious Phiri, and Chikumbutso Salima.
October was our highest-scoring month in as many years, as The People’s Team scored 26 goals in five matches across all competitions.
While you take time to pick your winner, we relive all the strikes nominated for this monthly award.
Phodo vs Mafco FC
This strike is absolutely beautiful. A cheeky flick from Babatunde Adepoju in the area finds Phodo, who takes one deft touch before placing the ball low into the bottom corner to beat the goalkeeper. Everything happened in the right motion, making it a vintage picture that secured us all three points with a 1-0 victory at home in the TNM Super League.
Chitiyo vs Mighty Mukuru Wanderers
The Zimbabwean may be winding down his first season with The People’s Team with some big moments, but the time he opened the scoring in the 77th Blantyre derby will surely go on to become one of the best moments in his Bullets career. He lets Nickson Nyasulu’s in-swinging delivery bounce once in the area and, on the turn, unleashes a stunning volley to leave the goalkeeper with no chance. It was simply a neat strike and truly a collector’s item.
Babatunde vs Mighty Mukuru Wanderers
Derby winners will always be special and be remembered forever, and so is the one Baba got against the Nomads in October. Wongani Lungu did all the good work to lay it up to the Nigerian striker, who had two defenders closing him down but remained calm to nicely tap it in as we collected maximum points against his former club with a 2-1 victory.
Gamphani vs Dedza Premier Bet Dynamos
Three months after joining Kalisto Pasuwa’s side, Gamphani came face to face with his former side to produce a smart finish in the league. Chrispin Mapemba saved the ball from going out of play with a clever delivery, and the midfielder was at the right place, cool as ice, to slot it home for the first time to salvage a point for us in stoppage after the visitors had taken a lead in the 65th minute.
Chitiyo vs Kumanda FC
The midfielder’s ability to get into dangerous spaces in the area is at full display in this goal. Chitiyo perfects his run to connect with his head Chikumbutso Salima’s sublime cross from down the left, beating the keeper at the far post. For decoration’s sake, the ball hits the post before proceeding into the net to open the scoring as we thrashed the non-league side 22-1 in the Castel Challenge Cup Round of 64 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Salima vs Kumanda FC
After creating goals in the tie, the winger then tried to score himself with a powerful shot from the edge of the area. The keeper kept the near post but could not keep that one out, such was the power behind that strike.
Gumbo vs Kumanda FC
Comes in another dangerous cross from Salima down the left, and this time, it’s Gumbo who times his run quite well to score another beautifully headed goal in this Castel Challenge Cup tie.
Phiri vs Kumanda FC
Set up by his fellow defender Collins Mujuru with a delightful chip pass, Phiri wasted no time to dink the ball past the keeper into the net with a delicate touch.
Gumbo vs Kumanda FC
The midfielder receives the ball from Ephraim Komdowe on the edge of the box, beats one opponent, and places it exactly where he wants it past the keeper in a game, he scored five himself.
