Kalisto Pasuwa was not pleased with Sunday’s performance as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets drew 1-1 against Moyale Barracks in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium.
The People’s Team scored first and the visitors responded before half-time as the defending champions registered a ninth draw of the season.
Reacting after the final whistle, Pasuwa said: “We are struggling. The way we were playing. We can’t even keep possession and are failing to take our chances. If you can see the goals we are conceding, we fight for a goal and when we are under attack, we end up conceding. Most of these goals are lateral balls and that’s what has been the case for us.”
Sitting fifth in the table with 24 points, the latest result means Bullets have lost 24 points in 16 games, leaving us 16 points behind log leaders Silver Strikers in the title race.
The Central Bankers, who have 12 wins, four draws and are yet to lose a game this campaign, have 40 points, scoring 26 goals against the defending champions’ nine.
But Pasuwa said “We mustn’t look much on opponents; we need to sort out our house for us to come up with results. The moment we look at other teams, we will end up not fulfilling fixtures.
“We will play our games as they come. We need to concentrate on what is lacking in us then we try to pick up the points. I can’t be talking of Silver Strikers. As Bullets, we need to sort out our problems in Bullets then we win and catch up with them.”
Following our draw against the Lions of Kaning’ina, Bullets will turn attention to the first leg of the CAF Champions League’s first preliminary round as we host Zambia’s Red Arrows in Lilongwe next Sunday.
The 2023 quadruple-winning coach believes a win over Moyale would have boosted the morale of his players ahead of the international match at the Bingu National Stadium.
“[It would have been] a huge motivation indeed and like I said, this result brings the heads down and now as coaches, we need to work more to motivate the players to raise their heads,” he commented.
The team is entering a crucial period in which they will face Arrows on Sunday before taking on Moyale Barracks again in the semifinals of the FDH Bank Cup midweek, before flying out to Lusaka for the return leg against the Zambian champions, who have just won the CECAFA Cup and the Carling Black Label Charity Shield.
