Precious Phiri, Ernest Petro, and Patrick Mwaungulu have been shortlisted for the Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month Award for September.
In the just-ended month, The People’s Team played four games, in the CAF Champions League, TNM Super League and the FDH Bank Cup.
Bullets opened their September run with a 1-0 defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo champions TP Mazembe in the continental competition, then went on to defeat Mighty Tigers 1-0 in the TNM Super League then thrashed Dedza Dynamos 5-1 to reach the FDH Bank Cup final before succumbing 4-0 to the Congolese champions in the return leg of the CAF Champions League.
The win over Tigers in the domestic championship took Maule back to the top of the TNM Super League table as the victory over Dedza saw Kalisto Pasuwa’s men setting up our first 2023 cup final against Mafco FC in the FDH Bank Cup.
Suffering 1-0 at home against Mazembe at home, The People’s Team had all to play for in the return leg of the CAF Champions League away in Lubumbashi in the final tie of the month and went on to lose 4-0 on Saturday and 5-0 on aggregate to bow out of competition.
Behind this run, our technical panel picked the trio as the best performers to be in the running for the monthly accolade sponsored by Hubertus Clausius Malawi.
Out of the four games in September, Precious Phiri made two appearances for us, playing every minute of our home and away defeats to TP Mazembe with such spirited performances, while Ernest Petro and Patrick Mwaungulu featured in all the domestic and continental fixtures, both coming off the bench in Lubumbashi, and the latter managing to put two assists to his name from the 5-1 win over Dedza.
