Wongani Lungu scored on his senior Malawi debut as the Flames defeated Comoros 2-0 in the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship qualifier at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder broke the deadlock after the recess to give Malawi a deserved lead five minutes into the final half.
Silver Strikers forward Binwell Katinji doubled the advantage in the 59th minute for the Flames to progress to the next round of the competition on a 4-0 aggregate victory against The Coelacanths following another 2-0 first-leg triumph at the same venue last Sunday.
Alick Lungu, Lloyd Aaron and Yankho Singo also started for the Kalisto Pasuwa side. Chikumbutso Salima and Ephraim Kondowe also had some minutes as they came on in the 74th and 78th minute.
Chawanangwa Gumbo replaced Wongani in the 85th minute while goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba was an unused substitute.
In the next round, Malawi will meet the winner between Egypt and South Africa, who face off in Ismailia on Sunday. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Bloemfontein six days ago.
