FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women kicked off their Goshen-FAM Women’s Football Southern Region League second-round campaign in style, thrashing Bangwe All Stars Women 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
A dominant display saw Chimwemwe Sapangwa’s tenth-minute free kick open the floodgates, paving the way for a convincing victory.
What happened
From the first whistle, Bullets Women unleashed a ferocious attack, with Tendai Sani’s thunderous shot rattling the side netting in the first minute.
Sharon Dzimau’s sixth-minute free kick whizzed wide, but Maggie Chombo’s ladies’ relentless pressure paid off in the 9th minute.
Sapangwa’s sensational direct free kick left the visiting Fortune Bwitu-Bwitu helpless, sending the Bullets faithful into raptures.
The tempo remained electric, with Pilirani Malora and Fauzah Mohammed orchestrating attacks. Bangwe’s defence was stretched to the limit, but captain Kisher Bosco’s clearance denied Fauzah Mohammed’s 13th-minute effort.
As the opening half progressed, both teams engaged in an enthralling end-to-end battle. Bwitu-Bwitu thwarted Dzimau’s 34th-minute free kick, but the home side’s dominance was evident.
Chombo’s tactical masterstroke at halftime was to introduce Matamando Makawa for Mohammed, while Bangwe brought in Wongani Kumwenda for Tamandani Mpita.
Makawa nearly doubled our lead in the 51st minute, only to be denied by Bwitu’s heroic save.
Bangwe pushed for an equaliser, but Bullets’ rock-solid defence held firm.
Grace Yotamu’s substitution for Rachel Matemba injected fresh energy, as Makawa’s 67th-minute strike eventually extended our lead, courtesy of Asimenye Mwanyongo’s pinpoint pass.
Sani put the icing on the cake with a sublime third goal in the 75th minute, crafted by Makawa and Mwanyongo’s mesmerising interplay.
What it means
Following this comfortable 3-0 win against Bangwe All Stars, our women’s team extended the lead at the summit of the table with 28 points from ten games.
Chombo’s post-match reaction
“We’re thrilled to start the second round with a convincing win. The girls executed our game plan perfectly, controlling the tempo and creating scoring opportunities. Chimwemwe’s stunning free-kick set the tone. We’ll regroup over the week and keep focusing on improving our finishing and maintaining our defensive solidity. We’ll take this momentum into our next match, aiming to continue our winning streak.”
