FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women kicked off the Goshen-FAM Women’s League with a commanding 18-1 victory over 11 Stars on Saturday at Mpira Stadium.
Vannesa Isa started the riot and there were plenty of goal-scorers as our ladies proved to be super free-scoring. It was 0-9 already at halftime and things could only get worse for the hosts in the second half.
What happened
In their first match of the season, after what was supposed to be their opener against Mighty Tigers Women last weekend was cancelled, Bullets quickly made themselves bossy visitors against the Bangwe-based 11 Stars, with Issa winning and scoring a penalty four minutes into the tie.
Camelina Chikuse nearly doubled the lead in the 9th minute but was denied by the post. Eight minutes after the opener, Pilirani Malora made it 2-0 after being set up by Fauza Mohammed.
Fashioning her second assist, Mohammed let Tendai Sani score the third in the 19th minute. The duo combined again in the 27th minute for another goal, accomplishing a brace for Sani.
Issa doubled her tally in the next minute after the home side’s goalkeeper Catherine Amos had fumbled the ball.
Chikuse would get on the scoresheet a minute past half an hour with some piece of magic, beating Amos with a powerful corner kick.
It was a hat-trick for Issa after she added another goal in the 34th minute, this time she was assisted by Sani.
After catalyzing two goals, Mohammed finished off a fine pass from Sani in the 37th minute.
The job looking to be done, Coach Maggie Chombo replaced Issa with Matamando Makawa, who went on to score just three minutes after coming on. The first half ended 9-0 in favour of Bullets Women.
In the second half, Mohammed grabbed a third assist after setting up Chikuse for what was her second goal in the tie immediately after the break.
Substitute Makawa was on the double already when she scored our 11th goal after she was set by Sani in the 49th minute.
Although it remained one-sided, 11 Stars got their consolation goal when they scored through Esther Chikaonda in the 52nd minute. Instantly Bullets quickly responded with Makawa’s goal at 55 minutes.
Chombo made further substitutions, bringing on Bernadette Mkandawire, Effa Msukwa, Rachel Matemb, and Ioulia Yiannakis.
Sani was the provider again when she assisted Malora for our 12th goal of the day a minute before the one-hour mark.
Makawa completed her hat-trick two minutes later, just before Sani extended her tally with three more goals in 11 minutes.
Ending the massacre, Makawa scored in the 88th minute to make it 1-18 after the full-time whistle.
Chombo’s comments after the match
“The ladies have impressed me. [Of course] they missed a lot of chances but that’s football, not all attempts can go straight into the net.”
