Kalisto Pasuwa did not hide his frustration as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead as we drew 2-2 with Civil Service United in the TNM Super League at Civo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Nickson Nyasulu scored from the spot in the first half before Ephraim Kondowe doubled our lead after the break to give The People’s Team a two-goal advantage.
However, with 26 minutes left to play, the home side pulled level through Chikaiko Batison’s brace to deny the visitors all three points. A win would have seen Bullets registering our first victory against The Servants at Civo Stadium since 2022.
“It’s very disappointing to drop points in such a manner because it was a game that we did well in the first half to score the opening goal and our second goal in the second half. Unfortunately, due to the delay in resuming the second half, my players lost concentration, [and] we failed to defend,” reacted Pasuwa.
“We conceded two similar goals behind the defence where we failed to manage the ball, and we ended up being scored. We failed to manage the situation starting with the goalkeeper. A long ball was coming, and one was going while the other one was putting cover at the back; we were colliding, and then the ball was put in the net. We should have done better than the way we defended. But that’s that, we move on from this. We just need to move on quickly from this setback and focus on our game against FOMO FC on Sunday.”
Our head coach also commented on our chances of finishing in the top two, saying, “We will keep on playing our games until the last day, and we will see how it goes.”
He went on to describe his team’s trip to Lilongwe as a successful one despite dropping four points in our two games. Before facing Civil, Pasuwa’s men registered a goalless draw against league leaders Silver Strikers on Saturday.
“We got two points instead of six, which is fair considering the congested fixtures that we were given. We were told to play two games within the shortest period, and it’s okay for us to take these points, ” he explained.
The 2023 quadruple winners are currently third in the standings with 46 points from 27 games, the lowest tally for The People’s Team since the 2011 season.
Remaining with three games to wrap up the league campaign this term, The People’s Team will travel to Mulanje to face relegation-threatened FOMO FC at Mulanje Park on Sunday, before facing Karonga United and Kamuzu Barracks in the last two fixtures.
