Mponda’s reaction to 4-0 win over Kamuzu Barracks

Peter Mponda expressed his satisfaction following FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ commanding 4-0 win over Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium—a performance he felt was a true response to his recent demands.

Though Bullets had defeated Chitipa United 3-0 last weekend, Mponda had voiced disappointment in the team’s display and called for an immediate improvement. The players answered emphatically, delivering a dominant four-goal triumph over KB to cement their place at the top of the TNM Super League standings.

After the match, Mponda shared his pleasure with the team’s showing, saying, “I’m delighted with the boys’ performance today. I challenged them to attack from the outset against KB and they rose to the occasion. We dictated the game, kept possession well, and scored the goals we needed—exactly what I wanted to see.”

On Saturday, Mponda deployed a 3-4-3 setup, with Blessings Mpokera, Clyde Senaji, and Yankho Singo at the back. The midfield was comprised of Lloyd Aaron, Chawanangwa Gumbo, Mike Mkwate, and Wongani Lungu. Leading the frontline, Babatunde Adepoju was supported on the flanks by Chikumbutso Salima and Maxwell Phodo.

Despite the tactical reshuffling, the head coach remarked, “There wasn’t a special tactical blueprint today. My priority was simply to select the right eleven, following the rules. Whether they operated as midfielders, defenders, or forwards didn’t concern me—the important thing was that each player fulfilled their role on the pitch. I’m extremely proud of their efforts,” stated Mponda.

Looking ahead to next weekend’s highly anticipated Blantyre derby, Mponda emphasized the importance of enjoying Saturday’s victory against KB but quickly focusing on the challenge ahead against Mighty Wanderers.

“The Blantyre derby is always a distinct fixture where form isn’t always decisive. We’ll take a moment to enjoy this result, review our performance, identify areas to improve, and start preparing on Monday. I have full confidence in the team’s readiness—the excitement of the derby provides all the motivation we need,” he explained.

With this result, Bullets have maintained their flawless start to the season, racking up six straight wins, 18 points, 19 goals scored, and just one conceded.

The goals against Kamuzu Barracks were scored by Mike Mkwate, Chikumbutso Salima, Wongani Lungu, and Sean McBrams—who celebrated his first professional goal for the club.
