Mponda on the importance of Moyale friendly

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda views Saturday’s friendly against Moyale Barracks as a valuable chance for players with limited game time to prove themselves.

Bullets welcome The Lions of Kaning’ina during the FIFA International Window as the Malawi national team is away in South Africa at the 2025 COSAFA Senior Challenge Championship.

The People’s Team has sent eight players to represent the Flames at the tournament, which starts this afternoon and continuing until June 15. Malawi will open their campaign against Lesotho on Thursday, then face Namibia on Sunday, before concluding their Group B matches against Namibia on Tuesday, June 10.

With league football temporarily halted, Mponda explained to club media, “These breaks can disrupt our momentum, so we’ve scheduled this friendly to keep the squad engaged and focused.

“With several regulars away on international duty, this match presents a valuable chance for less-used players to compete and gain match fitness. That’s part of why we chose to take on a Super League side,” he continued.

When asked if supporters could see new signing Paul Master debut against Moyale, Mponda responded, “Any player currently training with us is in contention to feature in the match.”

After signing a three-year contract with Bullets as a free agent last Friday following his departure from Blue Eagles, Master relocated to Blantyre and began training with his new team on Monday.

In addition to the midfielder, fans are also eagerly anticipating the debuts of Zambian left back Dominic Musonda, Bullets Reserves graduates Austin Chirambo and Edward Thengo, as well as Chikumbutso Henderson—none of whom have yet featured for Mponda’s squad at Kamuzu Stadium since their arrival.
