FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves head coach Heston Munthali has commended his side’s clinical second-half display in their 6-0 demolition of Nsanje United on Wednesday morning at Kamuzu Stadium, while cautioning against slow starts and complacency.
After a frustrating opening 45 minutes where the hosts struggled to impose their usual style of play, a superb free kick from Kondwani Mhone just before halftime gave Bullets Reserves a narrow lead. The second half, however, saw the young Maule switch gears, netting five more goals to secure a dominant victory.
“I’m proud of the boys for getting the job done, especially with how we performed in the second half,” said Munthali. “But honestly, we didn’t start well. The first half was below our standard—we weren’t executing what we worked on in training, and Nsanje made it difficult for us.”
The coach highlighted halftime adjustments as a turning point.
“At the break, we spoke to the players, made a few tactical changes, and from there we saw the kind of football we expect—quicker decisions, better movement, and more purpose going forward.”
Despite the commanding scoreline, Munthali warned against lapses in focus.
“These are young players, and sometimes when results are going our way, there’s a tendency to relax. Nsanje may be bottom of the table, but they gave us a tough time in the first half. That should serve as a reminder that no game is easy.”
With more matches coming thick and fast, Munthali stressed the importance of managing his squad.
“We need to rotate and keep everyone fresh. Players must be ready to step up when called upon. Today, our changes made a big difference and helped us maintain intensity throughout.”
Looking ahead, the coach urged his side to stay focused.
“This result boosts confidence, especially after our previous win. But we have another big challenge on Sunday against The Boys. We’ll recover, return to training, and prepare properly to keep the momentum going.”
The victory sees Bullets Reserves extend their lead at the top of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League to four points, now sitting on 22 points ahead of second-placed Ekhaya Reserves. The team next faces The Boys on Sunday afternoon, once again at Kamuzu Stadium.
