Starting XI: Mponda names Bullets squad to face Mafco

Head coach Peter Mponda has made three changes to the lineup that started Saturday’s FDH Bank Cup quarterfinal victory over Kamuzu Barracks, as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets welcome Mafco FC to Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon for a TNM Super League midweek clash.

In goal, Innocent Nyasulu returns to the starting XI, replacing Richard Chimbamba, who drops to the bench. Khumbo Banda also comes back into the side in place of Blessings Joseph, while Aaron Chilipa replaces Yankho Singo, who misses out through injury.

Blessings Mpokera retains his place in defence, linking up with Banda and Chilipa to anchor the backline for The People’s Team.

In midfield, captain Frank Willard leads alongside Paul Master and Chawanangwa Gumbo, who was voted Player of the Match in Saturday’s win over Kamuzu Barracks.

Further forward, Bright Munthali will operate just behind the attacking trio of Peter Banda, Hassan Kajoke, and Ephraim Kondowe, providing creative support and an extra goal threat from midfield.

Kajoke and Kondowe, both scorers in the 2-1 cup victory, will aim to continue their strong form in front of goal.

There’s a welcome return for Chrispin Mapemba, who makes the matchday squad for the first time in almost a year after recovering from an injury sustained in the 2024 Airtel Top 8 Final against Silver Strikers on November 9.

Heading into today’s encounter, Bullets top the TNM Super League table with 46 points from 19 games, four points clear of second-placed Mighty Wanderers, who have 42 points from 18 matches.

Karonga United sit third on 37 points, while defending champions Silver Strikers complete the top four on 36 points from 18 outings.
