FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women continued their fine run in the NBM Women’s Premiership with a hard-fought 2–1 victory away at Moyale Sisters on Saturday morning.
The result strengthens Bullets’ position near the top of the standings and underscores their resilience and attacking quality in challenging away fixtures.
A day after her birthday, Leah Mussa put on a show, opening the scoring and inspiring her teammates to secure the win. Linda Nyangu also found the net, while Moyale Sisters’ Moureen Phiri pulled one back in the second half.
First Half: Bullets Hit Early, Score Twice
Maggie Chombo’s ladies, who visited Mzuzu Stadium three days after the men’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Moyale Barracks, started the match on the front foot, creating early pressure through set-pieces and attacking combinations.
In the 16th minute, Leah Mussa broke the deadlock with a composed finish following a brilliant assist from Sharon Dzimau.
Bullets doubled their lead in the 29th minute when Nyangu capitalized on a defensive error to head past goalkeeper Mwayi Mhango. The visitors continued to maintain control in midfield, coming close to extending their lead when Nyangu struck the post in the 33rd minute.
Just before halftime, Bullets suffered a setback when Nyangu was forced off due to injury and replaced by Ioulia Yinnakis. The first half ended with Bullets comfortably in front at 2–0.
Second Half: Moyale Fight Back, Bullets Hold Nerve
Moyale Sisters returned with renewed energy, increasing their attacking tempo.
Despite several chances from Vanessa Issa, Monalisa Mhango, and Puna Mulenza, Bullets could not extend their lead.
The hosts reduced the deficit in the 70th minute when Moureen Phiri went one-on-one with goalkeeper Thoko Mwase and finished clinically.
Bullets’ defense held firm in the closing minutes, and Bridgette Malemia came on for Mwase to help see out the victory.
Highlight: Bullets showed composure under late pressure, resisting Moyale’s second-half surge to secure all three points.

What It Means
The win means Bullets have now collected six points away against three Mzuzu-based sides, having previously defeated MK Academy 2–0 last month. They remain with another Northern Region trip to face Topik Academy this campaign.
After 13 games, Maggie Chombo’s ladies are fourth on the standings, tied on 22 points with MDF Lioness. MDF are third on a better goal difference, having scored 23 goals and conceded 10, while Bullets have scored 21 and conceded 9. MDF were awarded full points and a 3–0 win after MK Academy failed to show for their fixture at Champion Stadium.
Silver Strikers Ladies remain in control at the top with 33 points from 12 games, while Ascent Academy occupy second with 26 points from 12 games.
The victory underscores Bullets’ tactical discipline, resilience, and attacking quality, particularly in away fixtures.
What’s Next
Bullets will return to Blantyre and turn their attention to the next fixture, which is yet to be confirmed by the Women’s League organizers, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM). The team will look to carry the momentum from this strong away win into preparations for the upcoming challenge.
