Gilbert Chirwa has lauded FCB Nyasa Big Bullets full back Yamikani Mologeni for his game intelligence, describing him as a key figure in the team’s recent performances.
Mologeni, a proud Bullets Reserves graduate and former junior side captain, spent the 2023 season on loan at Bangwe All Stars to gain top-flight experience. The full back initially featured sparingly after returning to the first team at the start of the 2024 season.
Under Chirwa’s guidance, the 23-year-old has flourished, transforming from a squad player into a vital pillar of the team. This rich vein of form has seen him establish himself as a regular starter, with his match-winning contributions highlighting his growing influence.
Mologeni has been directly involved in six of Bullets’ ten goals in recent competitions, providing crucial assists against Songwe Border United, Ndirande Stars, and Mighty Tigers.
His latest contribution came in the semifinal against Mzuzu City Hammers, where he set up both goals for Wongani Lungu in a 2–0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. The win secured Bullets a place in the final at Bingu National Stadium on 21 February.
Mologeni has started all four of Bullets’ matches in the tournament and featured in the starting XI for four of the five games since Chirwa took over as interim head coach seven weeks ago, highlighting his consistency and importance to the team.
Chirwa has also pushed Mologeni further forward in recent matches, deploying him as a right winger following the departure of Babatunde Adepoju and Chikumbutso Salima. The tactical adjustment has seen him operate higher up the pitch, where his pace, delivery, and football intelligence have added a new attacking dimension to Bullets’ play.
Speaking to club media after Sunday’s semifinal, the former Bullets defender praised Mologeni’s intelligence, decision-making, and influence on the game.
“Yamikani Mologeni is intelligent and decisive, and he has been involved in most of our goals in this tournament,” Chirwa said. “His contribution has been very important for the team.”
Operating primarily on the right flank, Mologeni has delivered dangerous crosses and created numerous scoring opportunities. He adds pace and width to Bullets’ attack while also maintaining defensive balance, helping the team control matches at both ends of the pitch.
Chirwa added that Mologeni’s performances reflect the depth and quality within the squad, giving Bullets an edge in crucial encounters.
“Players like Yamikani help us control the game both in attack and in defense,” he said. “His ability to read the game and make the right decisions has been very important for us.”
Bullets will now face Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in the Castel Challenge Cup final, giving the Bullets Reserves graduate another opportunity to shine and leave his mark on the national stage.
